Great
The Dyson Airwrap is a genuinely innovative tool that delivers on its heat-reduction promise and produces beautiful results โ€” once you master it. The learning curve is real, the curl hold is shorter than traditional irons, and the price is eye-watering. Worth it for daily stylers who prioritize hair health. Not worth it for occasional use.

What we liked

  • Coanda effect reduces direct heat damage
  • Versatile 6-attachment system
  • Natural, bouncy results when used correctly
  • High-quality engineering built to last
  • Doubles as a dryer with styling attachments

What could be better

  • $599.99 is an enormous investment
  • Steep learning curve (2-3 sessions minimum)
  • Curl hold time disappoints without product support
  • May not generate enough heat for thick/coarse hair
  • Multiple attachment switches slow down styling

The Dyson Airwrap is the most polarizing beauty tool of the decade. Half the internet swears it changed their life. The other half returned it. At $599.99, the stakes are high. Let's settle this.

How It Works

The Airwrap uses the Coanda effect โ€” a principle of aerodynamics where a jet of air follows the surface of the barrel, automatically wrapping hair around it. This means curling with air instead of direct heat contact, theoretically reducing heat damage compared to traditional curling irons.

The Complete Long kit includes six attachments: two curling barrels (clockwise and counterclockwise), a smoothing dryer, a round volumizing brush, a firm smoothing brush, and a soft smoothing brush.

The Learning Curve

This is not a "plug in and go" tool. The first 2-3 uses will frustrate you. The Coanda effect requires the right hair moisture level (about 80% dry), the right section size, and the right speed setting. Too wet, and the hair won't hold. Too dry, and it won't wrap. Get it right, and it feels like magic.

Results

When it works well, the Airwrap delivers bouncy, voluminous curls with a natural finish that looks like an expensive blowout. The curls are softer and less "done" than a traditional curling iron โ€” think effortless waves rather than tight ringlets.

Hold time is the weakness. Without product support, Airwrap curls relax significantly within 4-6 hours. Fine hair especially needs setting spray before and after. Thick, coarse hair may find the heat insufficient for longer-lasting styles.

Is It Worth $600?

If you style your hair 4+ times per week and value reduced heat damage, the per-use cost becomes reasonable within a year. The motor is engineered to last years. If you curl your hair once a month for events, absolutely not โ€” buy a $30 curling iron.
